Highlights from our 3/26 Dialogue and Action Meeting
What a fantastic line-up we had on March 26th! Thank you to all who made it out to hear Craig Mokhiber, Anna Falicov, and Coco Saliba.
I wanted to share some photos and video clips from the evening. For those that tuned in via Zoom, we figured out the issue which caused a late start and know how to avoid it next month. Thankfully, we caught the missed portion of Craig’s presentation on video.
The below videos are in a bunch of little clips. Anna’s introduction as well as some of the Q&A got cut off due to a camera issue which we’ll be resolving to avoid next time, but most of the evening was recorded. I did have a written version of Anna’s intro, so I’ve included it below before her presentation.
Anna’s introduction (which got cut out of the below video):
Anna Falicov is an attorney and public health practitioner living in Buffalo, NY. Her work entails supporting safe, affordable housing, focusing specifically on efforts to combat lead poisoning, which continues to damage the cognitive abilities and impede normal development of hundreds of children in Buffalo each year.
Anna previously worked for the City of Buffalo Law Department drafting municipal laws and policies around healthy housing, the environment and labor rights, and also practiced in a union-side labor law firm. She has an undergraduate degree in Urban Studies from Harvard University and a dual degree of Public Health and Law from the University at Buffalo.
Anna grew up in California and is the daughter of immigrants from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She speaks Spanish and enjoys travel in Mexico and Latin America. She now lives on the West Side with her husband and two children.
Anna is on the leadership team of the Buffalo chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace.
If you were unable to attend or participate in our action item, please check out the Allies Against Apartheid pledge and sign today! If you sign the pledge, find me at the next event for your water bottle/laptop sticker and, while they last, a lawn sign!
We shared a few resources/local events with you on Tuesday:
Ceasefire Pilgrimage (happened Saturday, registration passed, was a wonderful event!)
Leave it Blank for the Democratic Primary (happened yesterday)
Gaza on Main weekly protests
Solidarity Souk on April 26th (donation deadline April 15th)
We also highlighted a number of ongoing local groups and initiatives. You can find somewhere to plug in here. As always, if there’s anything missing from this list that you know of, please let us know at info@cpcwny.org.
Sponsorships: A big thank you to Almaza Grill for donating $100 in gift cards to auction off at our event and to Adam from Buffalo Fresh for donating a tray of delicious Arabic desserts!
Updates:
At our 3/6 event I promised two things:
that I would send out the POTUS # shared
that we’d get out an interview with Craig to tackle the questions that went unanswered at that event due to Craig’s unexpected illness
I forgot about the POTUS # in my recap last time, so my apologies. Here it is: (302) 404-0880. Text our president with your concerns!
An interview with Craig is in the works, and I still have all of the questions. His recovery has been on and off this month. Thank you for your patience while we give him space to catch up on life in a way that prioritizes his wellness.
Save the date!
Our next Dialogue and Action Meeting is planned for April 23rd at 7:00 p.m. Please make sure you are subscribed to our newsletter to receive event details in the next couple of weeks. Location still TBD as we are looking to diversify where we host meetings, so stay posted. If you would like to help provide a venue for a future meeting, please get in touch: info@cpcwny.org!
